Interpretation of Sura Maryam (Mary) 19:22

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful

قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَنَا رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَامًا زَكِيًّا ﴿١٩﴾‏

He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord, to give you the gift of a pure son.” (19)

Here Lady Maryam (A) had to calm down and get out of fear. Ibn Arabi discusses in his books that if Lady Mary (A) had stayed in the fear state, a harsh morality would arise in Jesus that no one could tolerate, because the states of the parents affect the child during the coagulation. So, at first, the angel calmed her  down by saying, “I am the Messenger of God

Maryam had a child from the soul. Jesus is similar to his father in name, meaning, and spiritually. His father became like a human and so, Jesus (A) got a human shape. His father’s name was the Spirit, and his name was “Rawh u Allah” (Spirit of God). Jesus (PBUH) was able to make people alive with God’s permission like his father (The spirit). Like miracles are mentioned in the Holy Quran: “When God says, O Jesus son of Mary, recall My favor upon you and upon your mother, how I supported you with the Holy Spirit. You spoke to the people from the crib, and in maturity. How I taught you the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel. And recall that you molded from clay the shape of a bird, by My leave, and then you breathed into it, and it became a bird, by My leave. And you healed the blind and the leprous, by My leave; and you revived the dead, by My leave. And recall that I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you brought them the clear miracles. But those who disbelieved among them said, `This is nothing but obvious sorcery[1] (Al Ma’ida:110)

She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I was never unchaste?” (20) He said, “Thus said your Lord, `It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.

Jesus (PBUH) was a blessing for the people and a mercy from God like Prophet Muhammad (S) who was the mercy for whole worlds. “We did not send you except as the mercy for the whole worlds[2] (Al-Anbiya:107). Miracles of Jesus (A) started when he spoke as an infant. He also talked to his mother. Wherever Jesus (A) went, he healed the sick. He raised the dead. It is interesting that his followers also could heal the sick.

The Angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a Word from Him. His name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, well-esteemed in this world and the next, and one of the nearest. (45) He will speak to the people from the crib, and in adulthood, and will be one of the righteous.” (46) She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child, when no man has touched me?” He said, “It will be so. God creates whatever He wills. To have anything done, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (47) And He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel. (48) A messenger to the Children of Israel: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the figure of a bird; then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s leave. And I heal the blind and the leprous, and I revive the dead, by God’s leave. And I inform you concerning what you eat, and what you store in your homes. In that is a sign for you, if you are believers.” (49) “And verifying what lies before me of the Torah, and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; so, fear God, and obey me.” (50) “God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.” (51)”[3] (Al-i-Imran:45-51).

People saw unbelievable miracles from Jesus and they knew that it is not possible to raise a few hundred years dead people. It was interesting that his disciples were able to heal sickness. That was one of the reasons the Holy Quran says, Jesus was a sign and mercy from us.

فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَانتَبَذَتْ بِهِ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا ﴿٢٢﴾

Then she conceived him and withdrew with him to a far-off place

A narration said that Jesus (A) was born after 9 hours of pregnancy and Prophet John (A) after 6 months. Where was the far-off place? According to some narrations, she went to Karbala with Thaumaturgical Teleportation (Tayy Al-Arz). It means, she traveled a very long distance in a very short time, and this is a kind of miracle. It seems that there is a place called “Lady Maryam place” in Karbala.

All praise is to God to the extent that He deserves it.
