Is It Possible to Have two Gods?

This proof is called “Borhan Tamano’ ” in Islam. It is an argument that theologians have put forward to prove monotheism. Whenever there are two Gods in the world, each is forcibly prevented from doing the actions. Each God wants to show his power against the other and to outdo each other, and as a result, each of them hinders the other. Therefore, it becomes necessary that nothing be done, and the world’s order is disrupted.

Theologians have taken this argument from the verses of the Quran.

“If there were in those two, gods other than God, they would have gone to ruin. So, glory be to God, Lord of the Throne, beyond what they allege” (Al-Anbia:22)

We must pay attention to “those two” in the above verse. How does the one God, who is pure and free from pairing, the creator of the pairs? Why does it prove the creator is One and Unique when things are pairs?

There are differences between a creator and a creature. When all things, including heaven and earth, are even and paired then their creator must be an individual, otherwise, this pairing would not be stable. Because the pairing of things depends on one person who upholds them, and if there were many origins (Gods), it would be impossible to balance those pairings, and corruption would prevent their continuation and survival.
