12 Successors of Prophet Muhammad (S)

Prophet Muhammad said, “My successors, up to the Resurrection, are 12 people”. This tradition is narrated by Sunni scholars with 6 to 7 different references. There have been many discussions among Sunni scholars to find out who these 12 successors are. There have been discussions among many Sunni scholars that should they include Muawiya and Yazid as successors because many scholars do not accept them as righteous. Some scholars do not accept Abdullah Ibn Omar as one of 12 successors either. So far, there is no definite answer among Sunnis scholars. The point is that Prophet Muhammad (S) said, his successors are 12 until the Day of Judgment, so one of them should have long age. Is it possible for a human to have long age? Yes, because God Almighty gave an example in the Holy Quran where He says, “We sent Noah to his people, and He stayed among them for a thousand years minus fifty years. Then the Deluge swept them; for they were wrongdoers” (Al-Ankabut: 14). These were the years before the deluge and he lived many years after that based on some narrations.
