“What is Guardianship (Welayah)”

Wilayah means closeness to God. In the case of closeness to God, it does not mean physical closeness. So, what does it mean to be close to God?

Closeness to God is the possession of the beautiful attributes of God, which is called guardianship. Human beings that gain more divine attributes or become manifestations of the beautiful names of God are close to God. Welayah has different degrees which are proportional to having divine attributes of God.
